Gabon
Egypt, the nation with the most titles in the history of African football edged Morocco 1-0 on Sunday to qualify for the AFCON 2017 semifinals.
In a tense match played in Port-Nice in Gabon, Mahmoud Kahraba pounced in the 86th minute to dump their north African rivals out of the competition.
The 1-0 scoreline also means Hector Cuper’s side have still not conceded a goal in four games in the competition.
Defeat for Morocco means the team’s coach Herve Renard’s dream of securing a historic third continental crown – after leading both Zambia and Ivory Coast to the title in previous editions – has been shelved for the time being.
The Pharaohs have been African champions a record seven times and will be fancying their chances of reaching the final when they meet Burkina Faso on Wednesday in Libreville.
